J. Roderick Heller, III, Chairman
J. Roderick Heller is Chairman and CEO of Carnton Capital Associates LP, a venture capital firm, and has more than 30 years' experience in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Heller serves on the board of directors of two public companies, Montpelier Ray Holdings, Ltd. (NYSE) and First Potomac Realty Trust (NYSE), as well as three private companies. He recently served as Chairman of the National Capital Revitalization Corporation (2001-2003), a quasi-public entity that stimulates economic development in Washington, D.C. through real estate development, business finance and job creation.
Mr. Heller assumed control of, and successfully turned around, several underperforming corporations. As Chairman and CEO of the National Housing Partnerships, Inc. (1985-1997), Mr. Heller built the housing consortium into the largest owner and operator of apartments in the U.S. and directed the public offering and subsequent sale of the company in 1995 and 1997. As President and CEO of Bristol Compressors, Inc. (1982-1985), a manufacturer of air conditioning compressors and condensing units that had not been profitable since its founding in 1975, Mr. Heller led the company to significant profits within two years. Bristol Compressors was sold in 1986 to York International, a global supplier of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Heller was a partner at the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C. (1971-1982), where his practice focused on corporate finance, with an emphasis on foreign investment transactions, real estate financing and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Heller holds an A.B. degree from Princeton University, where he was awarded the Danforth Foundation Fellowship and the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. Mr. Heller also holds an M.A. degree in history from Harvard University and an LL.D degree from Harvard Law School.
Peter L. Corsell, Chief Executive Officer
Peter L. Corsell is Chief Executive Officer for GridPoint and is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of the company. GridPoint is the pioneer of an innovative software platform to address today’s energy challenges while aligning the interests of electric utilities, consumers and the environment. MIT’s Technology Review magazine has recognized Mr. Corsell as one of the world’s top innovators under age 35 for developing a practical solution to advance the development of a Smart Grid.
In 2003, Mr. Corsell founded GridPoint to create a technology that would fuel the mass adoption of renewable energy sources and increase energy efficiency. Today, GridPoint is working with electric utilities nationwide to create a clean and efficient 21st century grid. GridPoint applies information technology to the grid, enabling utilities with a single interface for managing a variety of distributed resources including electric vehicles, solar panels, wind turbines, and advanced storage technologies as well as residential and commercial devices such as thermostats and water heaters. With GridPoint’s platform, utilities efficiently balance supply and demand in an economical, scaleable and environmentally beneficial manner. To date, GridPoint has raised over $220 million in equity capital, including a large investment by the Goldman Sachs Group. The World Economic Forum selected the company as a Technology Pioneer in 2008.
Mr. Corsell’s commitment to protect the environment and benefit society is also evident in his background and work outside of GridPoint. He is Chairman of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Alternative Energies and a member of Newsweek’s Global Environment and Leadership Advisory Committee. In addition, he serves on Xcel Energy’s Smart Grid Advisory Board, the Environmental Media Association’s Corporate Board and the board of directors of Standard Renewable Energy, a leading provider of integrated renewable energy solutions. Previously, Mr. Corsell served with the U.S. State Department in Cuba and as a political analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency. Mr. Corsell holds a B.S. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
Larry M. Kellerman, Director
Larry M. Kellerman is a Managing Director of the Fixed Income, Commodities and Currencies Division at Goldman Sachs, where since 2002 he has been responsible for developing the investment bank's power generation asset portfolio as well as activities in power commodity origination. He also serves as President of Cogentrix Energy, Inc., a leading independent power producer, which Goldman Sachs acquired in 2003.
Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Kellerman served as Senior Managing Director, North American and European Power, at El Paso Corporation, where he was responsible for acquiring, building, managing and commercial optimization of a 7,000 MW generation fleet. From 1988 to 1998, Mr. Kellerman was the President of Citizen Power LLC, where he initiated the operations of the nation's first independent power marketing company. Before that, he was the General Manager, Power Supply and Power Marketing, for Portland General Electric. He began his industry career with Southern California Edison in 1979.
Mr. Kellerman holds a B.A. in Business Management from the University of California, Davis, and an M.B.A from West Coast University in Los Angeles in Finance/Marketing.
David W. Mohler, Director
David W. Mohler is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Duke Energy, a Fortune 500 investor-owned utility. He has over 30 years of utility experience that includes executive positions in nuclear and non-nuclear power operations, marketing and customer operations, business development, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and human resources.
Mr. Mohler is responsible for assessing and applying a wide spectrum of developing technologies to meet Duke Energy’s strategic objectives. He and his team lead Duke’s “Utility of the Future” project, a targeted deployment of communications, sensors, controls and technologies designed to transform Duke’s energy delivery infrastructure into an intelligent, flexible, secure and responsive two-way information network while enabling full extension of energy efficiency and distributed resources. Duke’s regulated operations include 28,000 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity, 4 million electric and gas customers, and 47,000 square miles of service area in the Carolinas and the Midwest, and deregulated operations include 8,100 MW of generating capacity in the U.S., over 4,000 MW of generating capacity in Latin America, and a generation services business that owns and/or operates more than 6,500 MW of power generation.
Mr. Mohler holds a B.A. from Indiana University, a B.S. from the University of the State of New York, an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. from Xavier University.
Joseph M. Perta, Director
Joseph M. Perta has been an advisor to senior corporate officers and investors for nearly 30 years, initially as a management consultant specializing in mergers and acquisitions and more recently as a financial advisor to institutional and private investors. Mr. Perta is responsible for the management of institutional and private client assets in discretionary investment accounts that include U.S. and international equities, fixed income, and alternative investment portfolios.
Prior to serving as a financial advisor, Mr. Perta served for 20 years as a management consultant with a boutique investment banking firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Working with senior managers and major shareholders of both private and public companies, he developed and implemented corporate growth strategies for dozens of enterprises in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. Mr. Perta completed major cross-border transactions among his firm's European and Latin American clients in a broad range of industrial, manufacturing and consumer products companies.
Mr. Perta also serves as a director of several private corporations and not-for-profit organizations. He holds a B.A. degree in history from Trinity College and an M.S.F.S. degree in international relations and economics from Georgetown University.
Paul J. Powers, Director
Paul J. Powers is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Intertech Corp., a multinational manufacturer of hydraulic and metal products listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Powers is currently a private investor in several successful start-up companies and lends his expertise to various public and private companies.
Before his retirement from Commercial Intertech in 2000, Mr. Powers merged the company into Parker Hannifin Corp., the world's leading diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems, and spun off Cuno Inc., a leading manufacturer of consumer, life sciences and industrial filtration products.
Mr. Powers served on the board of directors of First Energy Corp., a diversified energy company; York International, the largest independent supplier of HVAC equipment in the U.S.; and GlobalSantaFe Corp., a leading worldwide offshore oil and gas drilling contractor. Mr. Powers holds a B.A. in economics from Merrimack College in Massachusetts and an MBA from George Washington University.
George P. Stamas, Director
George P. Stamas is a senior partner of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, and also a Venture Partner of New Enterprise Associates ("NEA"), a national venture capital firm. He is a founding director of FTI Consulting, a NYSE-listed worldwide business services firm; a director of Nexcen, a NASDAQ-quoted brand consolidator; and serves on the executive board of MidOcean Partners, a private equity firm. Prior to joining Kirkland, Mr. Stamas served as Vice Chairman of Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, Inc.
For the past two decades, Mr. Stamas has been the lead legal advisor on numerous public and private corporate transactions, including the $11 billion announced merger between Constellation Energy Group and FPL Group and the $2.4 billion management buyout of DB Capital Partners, the largest private equity secondary, as well as corporate transactions for numerous leading companies and financial institutions such as Constellation and NEA. Mr. Stamas is a director and investor in the Baltimore Orioles Baseball Club and has been a member of the board of directors of the Washington Capitals since 1999, when he assisted majority owner Theodore Leonsis in the formation and purchase by Lincoln Holdings of the Capitals and the investment in the Washington Wizards. In addition, he was a co-founder of Washington/Baltimore Olympics 2012.
Following graduation from the University of Maryland School of Law, Mr. Stamas joined the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as Special Counsel. He holds a B.S. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Eric C. Taubenheim, Director
Eric C. Taubenheim leads private investment opportunities in the area of industrial and clean technologies for Susquehanna International Group (SIG), a leading financial institution in trading, research and investments. Mr. Taubenheim joined SIG as a senior analyst in 2001 and has held several senior investment roles.
Prior to joining SIG, Mr. Taubenheim served as Vice President in High Yield Research at Goldman Sachs, with industry coverage among the telecommunications, media, and entertainment sectors as a senior analyst. He originally joined the firm in 1993 as a credit analyst and also worked in its London office. Prior to joining SIG and following Goldman Sachs, he also served as Managing Director, Research, at Colden Capital in New York.
Mr. Taubenheim holds a B.A. in English literature from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
Jacob J. Worenklein, Director
Jacob J. Worenklein is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of US Power Generating Company, which owns and operates a major portion of the power capacity in New York City and Boston. Before forming USPowerGen in April 2003, Mr. Worenklein was head of the global power and energy sectors and the project finance business at Societe Generale (SG), named in 2001 as the "World's Best Project Finance Bank" by Euromoney.
Before joining SG, Mr. Worenklein was Managing Director and Global Head of Project Finance at Lehman Brothers, where his group led several of the major M&A transactions and IPOs in the independent power industry. Previously, he was a partner at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, where he founded the firm's power, utility and project finance practices. Among his major clients at the firm were all the electric utility companies of New York State in a joint venture to construct and operate all future power plants in New York. Mr. Worenklein is also a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Ormat Technologies, Inc., which develops and owns geothermal and other renewable energy projects, and Globeleq, Inc., a power company focused on power investments in the emerging markets.
Mr. Worenklein has served as Adjunct Professor of Finance at New York University’s Stern School of Business, as a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development, as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and while a student, as Director of Research for the New York City Council President’s Office. He is a member of the New York City Partnership. In 2002 he received the first Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Infrastructure Journal in London. Mr. Worenklein holds a B.A. degree from Columbia College and J.D. and MBA degrees from NYU Law School and NYU Graduate School of Business Administration, now the Stern School of Business.
