Peter L. Corsell, President and Chief Executive Officer
Peter L. Corsell is President and Chief Executive Officer for GridPoint and is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of the company. GridPoint is the pioneer of an innovative smart grid platform to address today's energy challenges while aligning the interests of electric utilities, consumers and the environment.
In 2003, Mr. Corsell founded GridPoint to create a technology that would fuel the mass adoption of renewable energy sources and increase energy efficiency in homes and businesses. By 2005, the company identified the opportunity for its products to provide electric utilities with control over an intelligent network of distributed load measurement and control devices, energy storage technologies and renewable energy sources, thereby enabling utilities to balance demand and supply in an economical, scaleable and environmentally beneficial manner. Today, GridPoint has raised $102 million in invested capital, including a large investment by the Goldman Sachs Group, and is working with electric utilities nationwide. The World Economic Forum selected the company as a Technology Pioneer 2008.
Mr. Corsell's commitment to protect the environment and serve society is also evident in his background and work outside of GridPoint. He serves on Newsweek's Global Environment and Leadership Advisory Committee and the corporate board of the Environmental Media Association. He is also a member of the board of directors of Standard Renewable Energy, a leading provider of integrated renewable energy solutions. Previously, Mr. Corsell served with the U.S. State Department in Cuba and worked as a political analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency. Mr. Corsell holds a B.S.F.S. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
Karl Lewis, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Karl Lewis is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for GridPoint and is responsible for the operational development of the company and day-to-day execution across all departments. Previously, Mr. Lewis held the Senior Vice President position for Cigital, Inc., a software quality management consulting firm, where he was responsible for all consulting operations including sales, marketing, account management, project management and consultant resources.
Prior to Cigital, Mr. Lewis helped fuel the growth of Proxicom, Inc., an Internet professional services firm, which grew within four years from a privately held company with $4 million in revenues to a successful public company with over $145 million in revenues and eventually a profitable sale to a global technology company in a deal worth nearly $450 million. While at Proxicom, Mr. Lewis held various executive management positions including VP of Marketing, VP of Client Services, VP of the Strategy Consulting Practice, and VP of Corporate Development.
Prior to Proxicom, Mr. Lewis first contributed to the emergence of the Internet space in 1995 as a Senior Manager of Internet Products for MCI, where he was responsible for the development and launch of marketplaceMCI, the Internet's first e-commerce shopping mall, and internetMCI, the company's first Internet product. Mr. Lewis' additional responsibilities at MCI included business development, finance, administration, and product management for MCI Mail. Mr. Lewis holds a B.A. in economics from St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Louis Szablya, Executive Vice President, Sales and Delivery
Louis Szablya is Executive Vice President of Sales and Delivery for GridPoint and has overall responsibility for the sales and delivery of the GridPoint SmartGrid Platform™ in the electric utility market. Mr. Szablya has worked for more than 28 years in the electric energy industry and has extensive experience in electric and gas utility plant and system operations, engineering, marketing, business planning and assessment, mergers and acquisitions, financial analysis, wholesale power marketing, and general management. Mr. Szablya played a key role in the startup of five electric wholesale power marketers: Citigroup Global Commodities, El Paso Merchant Energy, Entergy Power Marketing, Electric Clearinghouse (now Dynergy), and Washington Water Power Wholesale Marketing.
Prior to joining GridPoint, Mr. Szablya served as Citigroup’s Director, Global Commodities, with a primary focus in electricity and natural gas structured transactions throughout North America. He was also the internal expert on the Pacific Northwest Hydroelectric System. From 1998 through 2002, Mr. Szablya was a Senior Vice President at El Paso Merchant Energy, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and responsible for the acquisition of $300 million in electric generation companies and assets, creating $60 million in value. During his tenure, he contributed to an increase in the company’s energy generation ownership from about 250 megawatts to about 7,000 megawatts. During the mid-1990s, Mr. Szablya served as Director of Western Electric Marketing for Entergy, during a time when the company grew from a startup to one of the top 10 U.S. power marketers. Mr. Szablya spent over 15 years at Washington Water Power Company (now Avista Utilities), where he gained expertise in substation and power plant design, retail marketing, gas brokering and ratemaking, and was responsible for the installation of the utility’s first SCADA system.
As an independent consultant, Mr. Szablya assisted in the development of two 500-megawatt power plants and provided merger and acquisition support to clients. He has been active in the electric power market organization WSPP, serving on the operating and executive committees. Mr. Szablya holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Washington State University in Pullman, WA.
Greg Bartolomei, Senior Vice President, Technology
Greg Bartolomei is Senior Vice President of Technology for GridPoint and is responsible for the product development and quality assurance of all GridPoint products. Mr. Bartolomei has over 16 years experience in the electromechanical industry in roles ranging across research, product development and consulting.
Previously, Mr. Bartolomei was Director of the Systems Integration and Verification Group for Ciena Corporation, a cutting edge optical communications company delivering highly reliable, industry leading products. While at Ciena, he was responsible for the integration and verification for all hardware (electrical, mechanical and optical), embedded real-time software and network management software.
Mr. Bartolomei joined Ciena from ETC where he served as a consultant to DARPA, ONR and U.S. Navy laboratories providing analysis of active and passive control technologies. Prior to ETC, Mr. Bartolomei provided research and analysis to the U.S. Navy for Radix Systems. Mr. Bartolomei holds master's degrees in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering from The Catholic University of America and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland.
Dale Bowen, Vice President, Finance and Treasurer
Dale Bowen is Vice President of Finance and Treasurer for GridPoint and is responsible for managing the company's financial reporting, budgeting, tax and treasury operations. Mr. Bowen has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance in the data management and financial services industries.
Prior to joining GridPoint, Mr. Bowen served as corporate controller for ATP, the world leader in the collection and distribution of fares and fare-related data for the airline and travel industry. Previously, he was Director of Finance for ABR Information Services, which was acquired by Ceridian Corp. after several years of record growth and posting annual revenue in excess of $100 million. Mr. Bowen also co-founded a consulting firm that provided accounting and financial services to individuals and corporations.
Mr. Bowen holds a B.S. in business management from the University of Utah and a master’s degree in financial economics for public policy from American University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Bowen is a Certified Public Accountant.
Tim Clark, Senior Vice President, Delivery
Tim Clark is Senior Vice President of Delivery for GridPoint and is responsible for the successful development and implementation of complex solutions for GridPoint's utility and corporate customers. Mr. Clark has over 18 years of experience in the Internet technology (IT) systems integration industry with deep expertise in requirements definition, design, testing, implementation, program management and methodology development.
Previously, Mr. Clark served as the head of professional services at Nextel Communications, where he led a group responsible for delivering Nextel's complex voice, data application and consulting service solutions. Mr. Clark was also co-founder of Leadiant, LLC, where he led a variety of clients to success in their business and IT initiatives.
Mr. Clark co-founded Leadiant after serving as an industry vice president at Proxicom, an Internet professional services firm, where he led numerous e-commerce initiatives for Fortune 500 clients. Prior to Proxicom, Mr. Clark was a senior manager at Andersen Consulting, specializing in large system integration projects. He joined Andersen after serving as a captain in the United States Air Force, where he managed large IT projects. Mr. Clark holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Penn State University and an M.B.A. from Auburn University.
Alexei J. Cowett, Executive Vice President, General Counsel
Alexei J. Cowett is Executive Vice President and General Counsel for GridPoint and is responsible for the company’s legal affairs. Prior to joining GridPoint, Mr. Cowett was Of Counsel to Greenberg Traurig LLP. As a senior member of the firm’s corporate department, Mr. Cowett advised public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity and venture financings and other significant business transactions. Previously, Mr. Cowett was a member of the mergers and acquisitions group of Davis Polk & Wardwell. He also was Vice President and General Counsel of govWorks, Inc., a provider of information technology solutions to the government sector.
In addition to his responsibilities at GridPoint, Mr. Cowett is Vice Chairman of the Arlington Economic Development Commission. He holds a A.B., magna cum laude, in government, from Harvard University and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the New York, District of Columbia and Virginia bars.
Betsy Cragon, Vice President, Marketing
Betsy Cragon is Vice President of Marketing for GridPoint and is responsible for corporate branding, marketing communications, market research and demand creation. Previously, Ms. Cragon founded Cragon Communications, a public relations firm focused on fueling the growth of technology start-ups as well as repositioning Fortune 500 technology products to address new markets.
Prior to founding Cragon Communications, Ms. Cragon served as director of communications for Proxicom, an Internet professional services firm, where she directed brand development, public relations and marketing communications programs. Within her first six months at Proxicom, Ms. Cragon's efforts enabled the company to claim the first Gold Clio awarded for Web site design, catapulting the company to the national stage. Four years later, Ms. Cragon's marketing direction helped spur Proxicom's growth from a privately held company with $4 million in revenues to a successful public company.
Ms. Cragon's nonprofit experience includes the co-authoring of a 2000 Republican National Convention prime-time speech and the garnering of an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters. Ms. Cragon has been a featured speaker on public relations strategies for the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She has held advertising and marketing positions with Rogers & Associates Advertising, an acquisition of TMP Worldwide, and The South Florida Newspaper Network. Ms. Cragon holds a B.S. in advertising from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University.
Brian Golden, Vice President, Corporate Development
Brian Golden is Vice President of Corporate Development for GridPoint and is responsible for cultivating strategic corporate initiatives including mergers and acquisitions and key business opportunities. Mr. Golden has spent over 15 years fostering the growth of early stage companies in roles ranging from sales and marketing to product development to corporate strategy.
Previously, Mr. Golden served as Vice President of Product Development at Trusted Edge, a provider of secure document retention & disposal software, where he was responsible for all software development and product implementation. Prior to that, Mr. Golden was Director of Product Management at Savi Technology, where he directed the development and redesign of the Savi SmartChain Platform, a real-time, distributed logistics platform providing end-to-end asset visibility and security. Before joining Savi, Mr. Golden spent several years at webMethods, a provider of business integration software, serving dual roles in product management and product marketing. Under his guidance, the webMethods for Trading Networks product was cited as the major influencer in over 50 percent of new sales in the first quarter it was available.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Golden was one of the first employees at Netscape Communications, where he was instrumental in numerous successful projects, including the development and deployment of marketplaceMCI, the worlds first Internet-based electronic mall. Mr. Golden holds a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Steve Hauser, Vice President, Strategy
Steve Hauser is Vice President of Strategy for GridPoint and is responsible for creating new markets and partnerships to accelerate the long-term growth of GridPoint. He has been nationally recognized for more than 25 years as a leader in clean energy technology development efforts. In 2002, he was featured in MIT's Technology Review magazine as a pioneer in the electric smart grid revolution.
Mr. Hauser also serves as President of the GridWise Alliance, an advocacy group supporting a national imperative for modernizing the nation's electric infrastructure. Since 2000, he has brought together more than 200 companies to create a broad industry vision to transform energy systems, markets and technologies. Mr. Hauser has also led the creation of a new national brand called "GridWise," significantly raising the visibility of these issues with federal and state policy makers.
Previously, Mr. Hauser has held various senior management positions at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Battelle and SAIC. During his career he has served as an advisor to numerous clean energy organizations and is former Chairman of the World Renewable Energy Congress. Mr. Hauser holds an M.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Washington and a B.S. in engineering physics from Oregon State University.
Michael Petrucelli, Vice President, Government Affairs
Michael Petrucelli is Vice President of Government Affairs for GridPoint and is responsible for engaging federal, state, and international policymakers, representing the company in a variety of policy forums, and undertaking government-wide initiatives that raise awareness of GridPoint's capabilities.
Mr. Petrucelli joined GridPoint from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where he served as Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services after previously working for two years as Deputy Director. Prior to holding positions within DHS, Mr. Petrucelli was Senior Vice President for Operations and Chief of Staff of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. He has also worked on economic and business issues at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and has extensive experience promoting U.S.-Asia trade relations, serving as Executive Director of the U.S.-Thailand Business Council, and as Director for Thailand, Burma and Financial Services at the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council. As a U.S. State Department Foreign Service Officer from 1992 to 1996, Mr. Petrucelli was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, the Bureau of Intelligence & Research in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Consulate General, Netherlands Antilles.
Mr. Petrucelli holds a master's degree in business administration from Goizueta Business School, Emory University, and also studied international business in the MBA program at Nijenrode University in the Netherlands. Mr. Petrucelli also holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
Tom Ulrich, Vice President, Sales
Tom Ulrich is Vice President of Sales for GridPoint and leads all sales and business development efforts, including revenue generation, indirect channels management, and overall customer satisfaction for the utility and consumer markets. Mr. Ulrich has more than 20 years of enterprise software sales and management experience and has played key roles in taking three privately held high-tech companies public.
Prior to joining GridPoint, Mr. Ulrich spent more than 10 years as a Sales Director with MicroStrategy, a provider of enterprise business intelligence products to the financial, telecommunications and utility industries. He helped lead it from a privately held company to one with a public valuation of over $20 billion in 2000. Previously, Mr. Ulrich served in a number of direct sales, sales management and product management roles for Intersolv, Genesys and Best Software.
Mr. Ulrich holds an M.B.A. in international business from George Washington University, where he received one of two university business fellowships in 1994, as well as a B.A. in marketing from Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y.
