DELIVERING SOPHISTICATED, RESPONSIVE CONTROL

GridPoint ‘s Storage Management software provides real-time control over the capture and dispatch of energy by storage assets located anywhere in a utility’s T&D system.

Agnostic to storage technologies and communications protocols, GridPoint’s software integrates with a variety of device manufacturers and employs multiple communications protocols over secure data channels, including AMI, ZigBee, WiFi, cellular, DNP3 and wired links. This results in a single, robust solution with the flexibility to manage grid-scale, substation and community energy storage installations.

Sophisticated software algorithms allow storage devices to be managed in isolation or aggregated at various levels of the T&D system and dynamically dispatched in a coordinated fashion. Charging and discharging scenarios include:

Load Leveling – Time-based management discharges energy during peak periods to help meet peak demand and charges during off-peak periods when demand and energy prices are low.

Load Shaping – Following a signal or schedule, charging (load) and discharging (generation) can be dynamically dispatched according to grid needs.

Renewable Integration – Based on a live wind or solar signal, charging or discharging can be synchronized with the availability of renewable energy – firming or storing excess energy.

Economic Dispatch – Following a real-time price signal allows energy economics to determine charging and discharging behavior.

System Regulation – Following a live system regulation signal, GridPoint’s storage management application can adaptively charge or discharge stored energy to cost-effectively provide emissions-free system regulation.

Spinning Reserves – Stored energy can be rapidly discharged, creating capacity in response to an unexpected power disruption.
