DEPLOYED IN A SMART GRID CITY
Building on their reputation as a sustainability leader, Xcel Energy began formulating their vision of a smart, carbon neutral electric grid in 2007.
In March 2008, that vision was transformed into reality when Xcel Energy announced plans to build the nation’s first citywide smart grid in Boulder, Colorado. Called
SmartGridCity™, the project brings together a fully integrated portfolio of smart grid technologies and is designed to deliver environmental, financial and operational benefits spanning the utility’s energy value chain.
SmartGridCity went live in July 2009, denoting the densest concentration of smart grid technologies in a single community to date.
GridPoint is delighted to participate in this revolutionary smart grid project. Our load management software is deployed to execute demand response and load-shaping events in Boulder. We have easily integrated with the devices selected to participate in SmartGridCity, maximizing the load Xcel Energy is able to call on to reduce demand.
Our consumer portal is connecting Boulder residents with the smart grid. Through an Xcel Energy-branded interface, users gain insight into their electricity usage, set energy profiles and remotely manage their household consumption. Monthly bills can be viewed and paid online.
We are pleased to work with Accenture and other SmartGrid Consortium partners, helping Xcel Energy set a smart grid precedent that will ultimately reshape the energy marketplace.
