GridPoint Helps Federal Agencies Comply with Mandates for Implementation of Technologies Supporting Renewable Energy

New Energy Law Encourages Advanced Technologies Like GridPoint's and Sets Goals for Energy Efficiency, Reduction and Net Metering

WASHINGTON - August 30, 2005 - GridPoint, Inc., a provider of intelligent energy management (IEM) appliances for residential, light commercial and government markets, announced today that its products will help government agencies comply with mandates for the implementation of technologies that support renewable energy outlined in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, as well as energy efficiency, reduction and net metering goals the new law also requires.

Signed into law by President Bush this month, the law encourages the deployment and use of advanced metering and communications technology such as GridPoint Connect, which integrates alternative energy sources such as solar panels as well as allows excess energy to be sold back to the utility. The product also improves power reliability in a clean, silent, automatic way.

GridPoint Connect also provides the ability to leverage net metering, which the new law mandates that federal buildings accomplish by October 2012. Additionally, agencies are required to reduce energy consumption per gross square foot by 20 percent by 2015, beginning with a two percent reduction in 2006. GridPoint's 2006 product releases will lower energy costs by 10 to 15 percent. The new energy law allows federal agencies to retain any appropriated funds saved in this manner.

"Not only is the government encouraging the adoption of clean, energy-saving technologies for consumers with this new law, they are setting an example by mandating change at the agency level," said Peter L. Corsell, President and CEO of GridPoint. "This is a big first step in the direction of creating a smarter electrical grid."

GridPoint's sophisticated "plug-and-play" appliances, the size of a small refrigerator, are marketed through premium home builders, utilities, retail chains and government entities as well as installers and contractors of electrical, heating, air-conditioning, home automation and renewable energy systems.
