GridPoint's Intelligent Energy Management Appliance Featured in National Solar Tour, Oct. 1st and 2nd
GridPoint Connect Allows Customers to Harness Renewable Energy and Benefit from Instant, Automatic, Silent Backup Power During Outages
WASHINGTON - September 27, 2005 - GridPoint, Inc., a provider of intelligent energy management (IEM) appliances, today announced that GridPoint Connect will be featured during the National Solar Tour held Oct. 1 and 2. GridPoint Connect allows users to integrate solar power and store it for future use, as well as leverage automatic, silent backup power.
Thousands of homeowners across the country and over 30 in the Washington metropolitan area will open their doors Saturday and Sunday to showcase how various state-of-the-art solar technologies work. GridPoint Connect will be featured in homes in the District, Arlington, Va., and Beallsville, Md. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the tour, sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) with support from Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
"GridPoint Connect is a unique product that gives users the ability to maximize their investment in solar energy," said Peter L. Corsell, President and CEO of GridPoint. "We are delighted with the opportunity to demonstrate our technology during in the National Solar Tour, especially at a time when Americans are seeking real products to help them increase energy efficiency, protect their homes and livelihoods, as well as the environment."
Made especially for renewable energy customers, GridPoint Connect is a grid-tied battery backup product that integrates and converts energy from solar panels into electricity that can be used immediately by the customer or stored within the product for future use. The product can also determine the amount of energy used from solar panels versus the utility company as well as peak usage throughout the day. In addition to providing backup power during outages, GridPoint Connect also enables users to sell excess energy back to the utility.
Unlike any other residential or light commercial energy technology, GridPoint products uniquely incorporate advanced software coupled with communication technologies and network controls. This allows the appliance to automatically execute intelligent decisions to improve power reliability and management as well as actively communicate with the company's performance monitoring and customer care center, GridPoint CentralSM, to ensure maximum efficiency and early detection of maintenance needs.
GridPoint Connect's features are the type of advanced metering and communications technology the new federal energy law encourages. Home and business owners who purchase GridPoint Connect can take advantage of tax credits allowed for commercial and private solar-related equipment. The product will also help government agencies comply with mandates for the implementation of technologies that support renewable energy, as well as energy efficiency, reduction and net metering goals the new law also requires.
Homes on the solar tour will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tickets are free. For more information and a map, please see www.solartour.org
Local sponsors include the Potomac Region Solar Energy Association and the Virginia Solar Council.
