GridPoint Joins Board of Directors of Maryland-DC-Virginia Solar Energy Industries Association
GridPoint to Work Together With MDV-SEIA to Support Local Solar Industry, Encourage Adoption
WASHINGTON - January 4, 2006 - GridPoint, Inc., a provider of intelligent energy management (IEM) appliances, today announced that it has been elected to the board of directors of the Maryland-DC-Virginia Solar Energy Industries Association (MDV-SEIA), the regional trade organization of the photovoltaics and solar thermal industry. GridPoint products integrate renewable energy, provide protection from power outages, and reduce energy costs for the home.
"We are delighted to welcome a local energy technology innovator to our board," said Peter Lowenthal, Director of MDV-SEIA. "Companies like GridPoint are creating products that will help spur the adoption of solar energy by allowing consumers to more easily integrate it into their homes and lifestyles."
Made especially for renewable energy customers, GridPoint Connect is a grid-tied battery backup product that integrates and converts energy from solar panels into electricity that can be used immediately by the customer or stored within the product for future use. It can also determine the amount of energy used from solar panels versus the utility company as well as peak usage throughout the day. In addition to providing backup power during outages, GridPoint Connect also enables users to sell excess energy back to the utility. Homeowners who purchase the appliance take advantage of tax credits allowed for private solar-related equipment.
"We look forward to working together with the members of MDV-SEIA to support the local solar industry, encourage the adoption of solar energy and help facilitate its use," said Peter L. Corsell, President and CEO of GridPoint. "Through our membership, we also learn about new renewable energy grants, incentives and requirements -- information we will use to better serve our customers."
GridPoint Connect was recently featured in Los Angeles Magazine's DesignHouse 2005: The Green Home, which marries healthy living with great design. The product was also selected as a finalist for Most Innovative Commercial Technology of the Year in the Platts 2005 Global Energy Awards.
