GridPoint Connect's™ Performance Verified by Utility's Independent Testing
Pacific Gas & Electric Company's San Ramon Laboratory Performed Test on Intelligent Energy Management Product
WASHINGTON - July 18, 2006 - GridPoint, Inc., a provider of intelligent energy management (IEM) products, announced today that independent testing of GridPoint Connect verifies the performance and capabilities of the product to provide clean, reliable backup power, integrate renewable energy, and automatically manage energy efficiency for the home or business. The testing was performed at Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E) San Ramon Laboratory facility in San Ramon, Calif.
GridPoint Connect is a grid-tied battery backup product that automatically executes intelligent decisions to improve power reliability and management. It enables customers to easily integrate renewable energy, leverage instant, silent backup power, as well as enjoy increased energy efficiency. The elegant turnkey appliance combines advanced battery storage with power electronics and is designed for use inside a home or business. GridPoint Connect customers can take advantage of tax credits allowed for commercial and private solar-related equipment.
GridPoint Connect was tested for safety, demand management, its ability to support a secure load and sell renewable energy back to the grid, as well as transfer time during an electric power grid failure. The product passed all criteria and also tested well within the 30 millisecond grid failure switchover timeframe.
"We are pleased that the performance of our product has been validated by one of the most forward-thinking and well-respected utilities in the country," said Peter L. Corsell, President and CEO of GridPoint.
GridPoint products benefit utilities by helping to reduce peak demand costs, enhance the reliability of the electric grid, and introduce a measure of network elasticity into the grid. For example, a group of 10,000 GridPoint appliances can deliver approximately 36 megawatts of power to the electric grid for several hours the equivalent of a modest power plant operating at peak capacity.
GridPoint Connect was recently named winner of Green Builder Magazine's Most Innovative Product Award, serves as the hub for solar technologies in the BASF Better Home, Better Planet Initiative: Near Zero Energy House, and is featured in Los Angeles Magazine's DesignHouse 2005: The Green Home.
