Each circuit is measured and recorded in any time interval, down to one second, and multiple circuits can be monitored at different intervals. Utilities gain actual data, not estimates, on consumption patterns of air conditioners, water heaters, pool pumps, etc. Predicting, controlling and verifying loads can be segmented by load type (e.g. air conditioners) either in aggregate or by substation, feeder or individual customer.

Utilities minimize the impact on customers (i.e. controlling temperature versus shutting down air conditioners) and credit an individual's bill based on actual versus estimated participation. The result is increased customer enrollment and satisfaction in demand response programs.
